SWISS PADEL HISTORY

2006, the Swiss Padel Association (SPV) was founded by Rico Jacober and his brother Mario Jacober, based in Zurich. An undertaking with a pioneering spirit: the aim of founding the association was and is to make padel sport popular in Switzerland – after South America and Spain.

2007 Member of the Federacion Internacional de Padel (FIP).

2008 A Swiss premiere in padel with foreign professional players took place at the Comexpo 08 as a show tournament in Wettingen.

2008 The first permanent padel court was built in Schaffhausen, where the qualifying games for the national team also took place.

2008 a Swiss delegation set off for the World Cup in Calgary for the first time.

2010 Founding and opening of a padel club in Unterengstringen, ZH. This served, among other things, as preparation for the World Cup in Mexico (2010 and 2012). Switzerland competed there with a women’s and a men’s team. Fourth place for the men’s team at the European Championships in Valencia in the same year. The first Swiss championship was also held in Unterengstringen.

2015 Swiss Padel men’s team at the European Championships in Holland.

The Swiss Championship, the Masters Tournament and Interclub Championships are organized annually by Swiss Padel.

The association also organizes the Swiss Padel Tour every season and has been managing the Swiss Padel Ranking since 2016.

The rules for all these events were edited by Swiss Padel and are updated every year (respecting the rules of the FIP.)

Since 2016 Swiss Padel has sent Swiss National teams to international championships annually.

2018 Swiss Padel is a founding member of EPA (later FEPA), the European Padel Association.

Since 2019 Swiss Padel has founded an official coach training program and has proposed several courses per year to new coaches.

2021 Swiss Padel Women National Team wins the bronze medal at FEPA European Championships in Bilbao (SP).

Since 2022 Swiss Padel has sent Juniors National teams to official international championships.

2022 Opening of the first padel club in Ticino: Padel is everywhere in Switzerland.

Since 2023 Swiss Padel has also sent Veterans National Teams to official international championships.

Spring 2023 3 Swiss Padel teams took part in the European Games in Krakow.

Summer 2023 Swiss Padel reached 1000 licensed competitive players.

Fall 2023 the Swiss Padel Women Champions pair won the silver medal at the FEPA European Champions Trophy in San Sebastian (SP).

2023 more than 200 official Swiss Padel tournaments were played.

Beginning 2024 Swiss Padel has 40 member clubs in all regions of Switzerland, from Graubünden to Basel, Geneva or Ticino. Over 80 teams take part in the Interclubs Championship.
